'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Judge the Celtic boss next summer - Robson

Was Celtic's 2-1 loss against Dundee United at the weekend really a big surprise? No, it's just the latest indication Celtic have become "just another SPL club".

Of course, that should come as no surprise as when players from West Brom, Derry City and Hibs are the height of the club's ambition, there is little else that could happen.

Tony Mowbray can ramble on about there being a gulf in class between Celtic and Dundee United but, quite honestly, that is no longer true. It is impossible to create a gulf by signing players with the same quality as those playing for other, so-called lesser teams.

Barry Robson has been quick to defend Mowbray and his fellow players, claiming judgement should not be made until the end of the season. If Celtic were being run by a board that still gave a toss about football, it's hard to imagine how Mowbray could last longer than the Christmas turkey...

The Evening Times quoted Robson as saying: "There are still a lot of positive things happening at the club under the new manager. The boys are all happy and we will keep going and try to win our next game. The manager and the team should be judged at the end of the season and not after one or two results. He is pleased with our performance, but not the result. We will not let our heads go down."

"A lot of positive things happening at the club"? If anybody knows of any, answers on the back of a postcard would be nice. Gordon Strachan leaving provided a boost, but that soon disappeared as Mowbray has done little to justify any hype he may have had - though he was nabbed from West Brom, hardly footballing giants.

At least the accounts look good...

Tony Mowbray is a lucky man that the scum are just as bad if not worse than us at the moment. If this was 10 years ago Mowbray would have been sacked by now. John Barnes was binned for less. This current Celtic side is by far the worst I've seen in the last 20 years. At least in the past you could put up with watching average Celtic sides because they at least had one or two individuals worth watching like McStay, Collins, Van Hooijdonk or Andreas Thom. Is their anybody in this current side worth holding on to? Hinkel, Zaluska, N'Guemo maybe buts that's about it. As for the gulf in class comment that Mowbray made at the weekend, the word class should never have been used to comment on a Celtic side that contains Gary Caldwell!!!
Meatbeat
Incorrect Meatbeat in season 94/95 Celtic were still in relagation trouble with 4 games to go amazing how supporters exagerate things!!!!!
dannybhoy46
Apart from season 94/95 then! Happy!!!
Meatbeat
hinkel has been ok but lets not get over excited, he's still part of a shambolic defence. nguemo is useless, the thought of him and brown in the centre for seasons to come is terrifyin. not a single player deserves pass marks this season and id sell anyone who attracts a decent offer. certainly wouldnt hand mowbray a few million either based on his signings so far either.
larssongod
No seasons 90/91,90/92,93/94 were pretty pathetic as well @ least give the guy till the end of the season Tommy Burns was given 3 years & only won a Scottish Cup against Airdrie & there was not as much greeting as there is @ the moment "The Greatest Power is often simple patience" keep the faith Hail Hail
dannybhoy46
people not realise that this season is our best start in the spl for 6 years
steve bhoy
i ment was not is
steve bhoy
Everything's OK then steve bhoy, game on! dannyboy I think your missing the point I was making when I say the worst team in the last 20 years. I mean the quality of football and player we have on display not any sort of points tally. The only reason things don't look so bad on paper right now is because the overall quality of the SPL is so bad. Tommy Burns teams produced attractive and attacking football played the Celtic way with some real quality players on show and was unlucky not to have won more. Do you really think Kris Killen would have got a game for those teams.
Meatbeat
well Willie Falconer did,the early nineties were far worse than now & the quality of football was dire especially in Tommy Burns 1st season.
dannybhoy46
Well the quality of football is still dire. Willie Falconer only cost £350,000. Marc Antoine Fortune cost £3.8 million and he's not any better.
Meatbeat
The Greatest Power is often simlpe Patience, BTW who told you MAF cost 3.8m
dannybhoy46
Saw it on a few sites. Telegraph website: Mowbray interview here's the address. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/leagues/scottishpremier/celtic/5788213/Marc-Antoine-Fortune-will-be-a-big-success-says-Celtic-manager-Tony-Mowbray.html

dannybhoy46
Not good enough for who? You!!! Who are you? Brother Walfrid!!! What was the fee then if you are saying everybody else is wrong.
Meatbeat
Why does the fee have to be stated by Celtic. The information could have came Nancy. How do you know what the journalists sources where? and how much research have you done on the matter to say that its wrong.
Meatbeat
Most Sports Journalist are nothing but liars FACT thet only get it right 20% of the time hence the reason i dont buy the papers who am i , i am Dannybhoy46!!!!!!!!!!
dannybhoy46
Wow!!! You mean er..... the real Dannybhoy46!!!! It can't be no way I don't believe you.
Meatbeat
