Celtic are getting closer to something decent

Sometimes the scoreline doesn't tell the full story - as was the case with Celtic's 1-0 win against Dundee United yesterday (Saturday, Feb 20).

Although Robbie Keane's strike after 20 minutes was the only goal of the game, Celtic did genuinely dominate the game, winning just under 70 per cent of the possession, and actually looked comfortable on the ball.

Keane may have made the most shrewd observation himself. After the game he said things were "starting to gel together. People are getting to know each other's games" and he's not wrong. After a lot of frustration and disappointment, things are looking better.

But has it all come too late?

Points on the board are worth more than games in hand - a old cliché but a fair one - and Celtic are now seven points behind Rangers going into Sunday's game at Ibrox. Win that and close the gap to four points and things will start to look very interesting.

Some will say Celtic should have scored more yesterday and that the problem of not converting possession into goals is a serious one. But while that's always true, the difference yesterday was that the players looked comfortable and understood when to press forward and hold back.

So although the team has still not fully clicked, and may not do so this season, the ability level of the players is such that it is still possible for them to win every remaining match. That has to be the aim and, if met, the title is still a distinct possibility.

I wish I could agree. This Celtic team in my opinion do NOT have what it takes to go an a long winning streak. Roll on next season though.
