Players are the heroes - Lennon

Thrilled Celtic manager Neil Lennon understandably couldn't conceal his delight after leading the club to one of their greatest-ever results.

"The players are heroes, they are heroes to me" - Neil Lennon
The Scottish champions stunned the rest of the football world with an incredible 2-1 victory against the magnificent Barcelona at a truly bouncing Celtic Park.

The outcome was all the most shocking considering that the home side had more than half a team ruled out through illness and injuries, including skipper Scott Brown and top goalscorer Gary Hooper.

"I think it was one of the greatest nights in the club's recent history," Lennon told the Sporting Life. "It was very poignant at our 125th anniversary, one to play Barcelona in such a prestigious game and two, to win the game under huge difficulties with the squad decimated by injuries and illness.

"The players are heroes, they are heroes to me," he continued. "I can't speak highly enough of their performance tonight and they will go down in the history books of the club as the team who beat probably the best team in the world."
