Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster is thrilled at the prospect of coming up against legendary Italian shot-stopper Gianluigi Buffon in the New Year.

"It will be great to see him play" - Fraser Forster
Forster is already a big admirer of the 34-year-old Juventus keeper who has already amassed 125 international caps during a star-studded career and will soon be aiming to keep Celtic at bay in their Champions League last-sixteen tie.

Buffon originally made over 150 senior appearances for Parma until switching to Juventus more than a decade ago and is now rapidly closing in on more than 350 senior games for the Turin club.

He helped Italy win the World Cup following a penalty shoot-out against France in Germany in 2006, and then most recently to the European Championship final against Spain earlier this year.

"He's just a fantastic shot-stopper, that's probably his main characteristic," Forster told Celtic's official website. "He makes saves that keeps teams in games and it's a fantastic platform for which the team can build on.

"He's right up there at the top," he added. "Individually, he's won a lot of trophies such as the World Cup and everything, so it will be great to see him play."
