Celtic could turn to Burnley ace

Celtic could turn to Burnley striker Charlie Austin should they lose the services of top scorer Gary Hooper anytime this month.

"Charlie is a proven goalscorer and obviously he might come in handy" - Johan Mjallby
While the Hoops still remain determined to hold onto Hooper after claiming his twentieth goal of the season at the weekend, Austin has nonetheless been identified as a possible replacement.

The prolific 24-year-old has so far helped himself to 23 goals in 27 games for Championship play-off chasers Burnley this season. He originally joined the Clarets from Swindon Town two years ago following an outstanding goalscoring record with non-league Poole Town.

"Yes, he might be on the shortlist," Celtic assistant manager Johan Mjallby told SkySports. "Charlie is a proven goalscorer and obviously he might come in handy in the future. But right now we think that Gary's going to stay on - at least until the summer - and that would be great for the club."

Meanwhile, Celtic have already rejected a recent £5m bid for Hooper from Norwich City, who could well though come back in with an improved offer.
