Celtic defender Virgil van Dijk doesn't believes claims of a lack of competition in Scottish football will harm his chances of a World Cup spot with Holland.

That follows his side absolutely cruising to the last sixteen of the Scottish Cup with a 7-0 weekend victory at Scottish Premiership rivals Hearts.

"Will results like Sunday's hinder my chances? I don't know. It's difficult for me to say how the national team coaches judge players," van Dijk told the Daily Record. "But all I can do is to continue playing well and win the games with my team.

"But I do think the Premiership is a competitive league - definitely," he continued. "If you compare it to the Dutch league, it is quite similar. There only a few differences, like the physicality."

The former FC Groningen centre-back was recruited from the Eredivisie over the summer in a £2.6m deal.
