Lennon disheartened by collapse

Manager Neil Lennon was left feeling hurt by the performance of his Celtic side after they were crushed 6-1 by Barcelona at the Nou Camp.

"I wouldn't say some players gave up but it certainly looked that way at times" - Neil Lennon
Brazilian international Neymar helped himself to a hat-trick as the hosts romped to an easy success, with Celtic substitute Georgios Samaras earning little more than a consolation just before the end.

"I wouldn't say some players gave up but it certainly looked that way at times," Lennon told BBC Scotland. "I'd never accuse a player of doing that but there was a lot of half-hearted performances out there. As a manager that's the most disappointing aspect of the whole game.

"There's only two or three players that showed anything; [Virgil] van Dijk, [Adam] Matthews and [Mikael] Lustig," he added. "I excuse the goalkeeper in that as well. But the rest of the team were very, very poor - well below the standards they've set themselves over the past few years."

AC Milan qualified from the group alongside Barcelona following a 0-0 draw with Ajax at the San Siro, despite having key midfielder Riccardo Montolivo sent-off.

There were also ugly scenes before the game with three Ajax supporters taken to hospital after being stabbed during street fights.
