Defender Adam Matthews is hoping for an injury-free season at Celtic this time around.

'I had a lot of niggly injuries so it was a disappointing season for me' - Adam Matthews
The Welsh international full-back was beset by shoulder and hamstring
problems during the previous campaign and is naturally keen for better. He does though readily acknowledge the level of competition faced for a starting place.

"I had a lot of niggly injuries so it was a disappointing season for me but a great one for the team," Matthews told Celtic's official website. "I'm just hoping to get a good pre-season and kick on.

"The right-back position is really strong just now with Mikael Lustig and Darnell Fisher there, so I know what I have to do to get in the team," he added. "It's good to have competition, though, because it keeps you sharp in training. If you have a bad week you know you won't be playing at the weekend."

Holders Celtic avoided a second-half comeback from Hibernian to move into another Scottish League Cup final with a 4-2 victory at Hampden Park.

Defender Mikael Lustig scored twice before the break but former striker Anthony Stokes reduced the deficit from a penalty around the hour-mark.

However, substitute Moussa Dembele then made it 3-1 - and went on to add a late second after Hibs' Oliver Shaw had already replied.
