Legia Warsaw have detailed their appeal against elimination from the Champions League.

The Poles were thrown out of the competition for fielding the ineligible Bartosz Bereszynski during their 6-1 aggregate victory against Scottish champions Celtic.

UEFA are to hear their appeal in Switzerland on Wednesday when Legia hope their punishment will be reduced of even completely nullified. A decision should be reached either Thursday or Friday.

Bereszynski faced a three-match suspension and missed both recent second qualifying round legs against St Patrick's Athletic and the first meeting with Celtic.

But it has since emerged Bereszynski wasn't even registered in their squad at the time of facing the Irish side and therefore those two games don't count.

Legia are appealing on the basis of three separate UEFA regulations and make particular reference to "the objective and subjective aspects of the offence".

"We wish to inform that the above mentioned argumentation will be used by the club at every stage of the appeal process," said their statement.
