Defender faces spell on sidelines

Defender faces spell on sidelines

Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko will be sidelined for around six weeks.

The 25-year-old Dane suffered knee ligament damage during the midweek Champions League victory at Rosenborg.

It therefore rules him out against forthcoming play-off opponents Astana.

"It could have been worse but we will take it at six weeks, not probably back until September," manager Brendan Rodgers told BBC Scotland. "We've just had his results so he will probably be up to about six weeks, which is disappointing."

Fellow centre-back Dedryck Boyata is already missing until around the same time.
