Rodgers hails Celtic quality

Brendan Rodgers praised the performance of his Celtic side following their slender 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich at Celtic Park.

Midfielder Callum McGregor produced a clinical finish from excellent work by the outstanding James Forrest with sixteen minutes remaining, but that fell in between strikes from Kingsley Coman and Javi Martinez at the other end.

Those were enough to eliminate the hosts from the Champions League but they can still qualify for the Europa League.

"I thought, as a team, we showed a high level of tactical idea and technique to play," Rodgers told BBC Scotland. "The goal was a wonderful demonstration of two Scottish players showing a great bit of skill.

"How James lifted that over - if that was them, everybody would be raving about it - and Callum does what he does, he breaks into the box and scores," he added. "Kieran Tierney up against Arjen Robben, outstanding again, and Scott Brown in midfield, controlling.

"It's another step for us being a competitive side and playing proper football at this level."

Reaction of champions - Rodgers

Manager Brendan Rodgers says Celtic showed champions' credentials in their 2-0 victory at Aberdeen.

Aberdeen 0 Celtic 2

Both teams had a player sent-off as Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic accounted for third-placed Aberdeen 2-0 at Pittodrie.

Moussa Dembele headed in at the far post from James Forrest's cross to earn them an interval advantage.

But defender Mikael Lustig picked up a second yellow card and was dismissed with fourteen minutes remaining.

However, fellow full-back Kieran Tierney still added a second goal before home substitute Sam Cosgrove was sent-off for a bad late challenge
