Barton will not join Celtic

Celtic fans should be relieved that Joey Barton has decided to join Newcastle in a £5.5million deal.

The deal, which hinges upon Scott Parker moving to West Ham United, is expected to be completed today.

The price tag is overwhelming - the player has the shortest fuse in football and its an attacking midfielder Celtic can do without. The same can go for Jason Koumas, who is likely to cost roughly £6million - another ridiculous figure.

I am still confident Stephen Appiah will be joining Celtic in the near future. The next fortnight could see a deal tied up. Let's just breath a huge sigh of relief that the hot-headed Barton will not be wearing green and white hoops next term.

Ridiculous poorly constructed and terrible article. All you mention is Barton having a short fuse. So what?! Sutton, Lenny and Thommo had short fuses but they were still Celtic greats. That argument is juvenile and immature. You come nowhere near to mention his great football ability and passion for the game. I think someone agreed with me on the forum when they watched the interview with Barton on Sky Sports i think he was quoted to say all he wasnt interested in “money or houses but trophies”. That's a player we could do with considering the terrible mentality of this years team. I do not want Appiah! Forget him, if he signs for Celtic he will be a dud! African players cant cut it in British football. They do not know what it means to play for Celtic, British based fighters are the best when it comes to tooth and nail football, Africans are mercenary footballers, the less of them around the better. With the exception of Brown GS should think very carefully what he chooses to do or not to do. If he continues this laid back approach lack of ambition i expect him to be shown the door very shortly!!

If Strachan signs those other two fanny's we've been linked with..he can get tae F!!, Barton would have been a better signing, and would have added more class and steel to our midfield!...as for Appiah, I still rate him and want him to join...but wee Strachan has got me worried. Barton was a player worth the money. Koumas isn't worth anywhere near the fee being touted for him!...get you bloody act together Strachan and start showing some ambition to match that of the Celtic support! This season is your last chance saloon signing wise mate!...No more feck-ups this time..

All I would add is that normally a player's temper can be dealt with - but Barton is possibly the most extreme example of a player with problems. I'd guess that within a few months at Newcastle, Barton will do something that will make us glad we didn't get him. But he would still be better than the Baggy clowns!

Jamie m8 i have to disagree, temperment has never been a problem for us, altough the media give our players a tough time. Lennon and Boruc for example would be more-less the same temperment as Barton. Im still waiting for the writer of this article to come out and explain his hun conversion!

Were signing Free's and being linked with championship players!..where the F are the Blue-Chip players we were promised???, or are we just getting players who could play for the local chippy team!!! Strachan couldn't pick his nose, Scott Brown was a no brainer FFS, as for the other two, bloody skippy(750k) and Sheepy..stolen from feckin Cardiff!!...Get Tommy Burns back in that managers job...that guy has real ambition and loves the club!, Strachan just takes the ***** out of us fans both with player signings and team selections and tactics...tosser! If this appiah guy is half as good as Essien,kanu,Weah, Eto, McCarthy, Toure (and the list goes on ) then i will be one happy bhoy. Why are Barcelona quite happy to get rid of Eto, who does Kanu play for again? There is no douby that they have technical ability but it dosent last, and its alright saying they are playing well when they are winning. But where are these African players to pull you out from 2-0 down. I didnt JimmyTroare inspire his team to victory in Instanball. It was Gerrard. Because Gerrard has the capacity to do that. rk1888, I just noticed u wanted me to come out and explain my 'hun conversion'. Well, Im a Celtic man thru and thru. Boruc like Barton? He doesn't go about knocking lumps out of folk and showing his backside to supporters. He's not the type of role model we need at this club and for me, I dont see what he has that Scott Brown has not got. I wrote this article because I believe we would have rued this signing. Let wee Broonaldo do the business in the middle of the park with Hartley or Appiah. I expressed my opinion, nothing wrong with that but there is something wrong when u want to show a double winning manager the door.

I swear some of you guys must be genuinely bipolar. Suggesting Appiah couldn't cut it here is a joke. He is an absolute bulldog, in the same style as Essien, and he hasn't struggled to fit in to the UK style. I would personally take Appiah over Barton anyday. As for suggesting Appiah should ***** off, while keeping Miller, that doesn't ever deserve debate. The day Miller is sold will be a great day for Celtic. A *****e player gone for a profit. Thanks for those two goals against Benfica, but I won't remember you in 5 years Kenny, and neither will the majority of Celtic supporters.

Tim on the Bog, yes Hartson did do very well at the club. However I feel Barton's behaviour has been unacceptable and we dont even need him in our midfield. If brown does something offensive, the first one to reprimand him will be WGS. As a player, Brown is every bit as good and will be better. And when the huns r kickn us it would be players like Barton getting himself sent off, suspended (or jailed), costing us points and us supporters money in wages. Im not wanting to pay money into his wage packet to sit in jail.

aye, the kicking part IB, their filling their feckin team with hammer-throwers.., Barton was sent off once last season for your informationS1..get your facts right at least!..you'd think the guy was Attila the Hun to hear you go on about him. So, Hartson kicking our ex-Israeli player in the head deliberately is ok...but Barton having a square-go with a team mate isn't?...there's no difference between the two. Yeah exactly, Bellamy was a troublemaker and he got a golf club to Riise. But he still played amazing agasint Barca. This troublemaker argument has very little gravity. Look at Jarosik and Naka and all those other poofs. Yes we have Scott Brown, great player no doubt i am pleased wit him. But he alone cannot control a midfield maybe in the SPL but not in Europe. Barton would have added more stability, agression, determination and passion. Major Celtic characteristics. I am still very *****ed that Strachan did ***** all to sign him. Its now a war between West Ham and Newscastle. Altough some might argue that we have already spent more less 5 mill on Brown, another 5 mill would be benefical in the long run. MON was allowed to spend lik 20 in his 1st season so why shouldnt we break the bank, MON got us to the uefa cup final with that team, Strachan should be more asserrtive and ask for the money. Bellamy is a far superior player to Barton first of all. As for Hartson, this was one incident. Bellamy has had 'alleged' incidents whereas Barton has a string of cases where he has 'lost the nut'. The cigar in the eye is a prime example.

Bellamy was questioned for assaulting a woman, but that doesnt mean anything. Bellamy is not "a far superior player to Barton" Barton is young midfielder still learning the game, Bellamy is a proven striker. Bellamy is only just better than him in my opinion. You will soon eat your words when Barton has a cracking season at Newscatle next year. I mean lik, when someone like Barton comes on the transfer market then you do all you can to buy him. Bellamy has also had a string of incidents inside and out of the game. Bellamy has infact had more on and off the field incidents than Barton and that is a fact! I like wee Bellamy he has class but i like Barton 2 and i will not be renewing my season ticket this year because Strachans ambiton has made me sick! Just wait next year till the huns start humpin us again at Parkhead and Ibrox! Then you will want your Joey Barton!

Again, if you honestly believe that Rangers will be pumping us home and away come next season, then you need to go get some prozac. They beat us twice when the players obviously didn't care. I don't care that an Old Firm game in never meaningless, when you're making 20k per week and you've already finished your primary task then you won't try ok. Ok, Lennon cared, but he was useless and couldn't change a game, so it didn't matter. Look at Rangers right now, they're a joke. They can't get McCulloh because he's 2.5 million. They can't get Naismith because he's 1 million. If we manage to sign Appiah we'll have a midfield that will absolutely dominate them.

THAT IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH! Its players like that who we dont want our club! So we have earned 20k a week so lets sit back and face humilation. Big games dont come round often in Scotland and when it is your fierce rivals and only other competeator in the league then you should bloody well care of get the ***** out the door! Because he lacks ambition in many different areas. I am a Celtic fan who demands perfection. Although i am not as some might think a hardline fan who expects too much and dosent give people the chance. The point is that i supported GS from day 1 from Artmedia and the other disastrous sitatutions he got himself in. But i was one of the only Celtic fans to give the man a chance. But this season he has blown his chance. Get Roy Keane!

To say Barton would be a good signing shows lack of forsight. He may be a talented player but quite clearly de-ranged off it. This in turn means he pishess off team mates and causes bad atmosphere in changing room. Lennon had the respect of all and that why he the team worked hard like him or he would let them know otherwise. Lets see how long it is before he gets butted by big Sam Allardyce.

If you had listened to his interview with Sky sports, he is willingy and determined to win trophies. That is a massive boast to any dressing room and the majoirty of his fights were because all the other duds in man city were not pullin thier weight.
