Celtic Given option if Boruc goes

News that Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krul has signed a four-year contract extension will fuel speculation that Celtic could line-up Shay Given as a replacement for Artur Boruc - if the Polish star moves to England.

Krul is only 19 but appears to have a bright future at Newcastle. While he is expecting to go out on loan at the start of next season, Newcastle also have the talented Steve Harper on their books to cover if Given does move.

While all of Timdom will hope that Artur Boruc remains at Parkhead for years to come, it is clear that the amount of cash available to some clubs in England means that no player can really be considered completely unavailable for transfer, sadly.

Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill has already stressed that he is not in the market for any Celtic player, though speculation linking Boruc with a move to the Birmingham club for somewhere in the region of £8million continues.

Sunderland are another club that have been suggested as a possible destination, though it seems unlikely that King Artur would want to give up a season of Champions League football in exchange for a season of relegation battles.

But, if a club did make a huge offer for the Polish international stopper and the powers-that-be decided to accept it, then would there be a better choice than Shay Given? One outlandish-sounding rumour doing the rounds is that Newcastle will in fact offer Given and £2million for Boruc.

Time will tell, and hopefully this is nothing but summer speculation. And hopefully, the Scottish media will not get what apparently want - Boruc out of Scotland - as he is one of the few genuine characters in the game.

And, of course, Shay Given does get linked with a move to Parkhead at least five times during every transfer window...!

True Jamie, these fuds in the meedja are always trying to get our best players away...so their beloved huns can stand a chance! Boruc would laugh at the sh.itey wee clubs these fanny's are linking him with..
Tim on the bog
Yes, they grow ever more desperate the more we dominate and out-perform their team - on and off the park!
TicV"Establishment"
They do it all througout the year, remember after the Man U and Milan games...they linked every top club in Europe with moves for Boruc and Naka.., especially the the daily record, or as fans on here refer to it: the Daily Recorc...well named!
Skoosh
sorry but given is the best most consistent goalie in the premiership after cech, theres no way newcastle would sell him. as for krul hes supposed to be good but wont be playing anytime soon. Also 'the talented Steve Harper'???? He's a terrible keeper who will also never play in front of given. the only good thing about that is that we can be sure boruc is not going to newcastle
sing_tim
Its all the funnier when you consider that the huns don't have a single player at their cash-stricken club who would fetch more than a hamper full of training-vests! raging-huns in crisis..again!
Tim on the bog
It's only a worst case scenario. Artur shouldn't be going anywhere...

I met Given in Montys in the Algarve recently. I asked him when he would be coming to Celtic Park and he replied that he would really love to but that Big Boruc was doing a good job so it seemed unlikely.
malcy
Given is a better keeper than Boruc. Boruc is a few years younger though.

We need to try our hardest to keep our Holy Goalie. At the moment there arent any keepers as good as him, be it league champs league or the World Cup..Hail Hail Artur
