Celtic will get Appiah if Tommy goes

Fenerbahce midfielder Stephen Appiah is close to agreeing a move to Celtic - but misfit Thomas Gravesen may have to be sent packing first.

Appiah, the 26-year-old Ghana captain, is available for around £5.7million but according to the Times - and more than one person who has contacted us - the wages seem to be the sticking point.

The former Juventus star apparently wants £40,000-a-week, and that is rumoured to be exactly the same amount of money as former Real Madrid Galactico Gravesen currently earns. But does 'one in, one out' make sense in this situation?

Possibly, but arguments could be made for keeping Gravesen instead. Although he didn't perform for Celtic last season, and fell out of the first-team picture by the time of the Scottish Cup win, he has shown in the past that he is suited to football on this island.

However, the same cannot be said of Appiah, who has spent all of his career either in Africa or around the Mediterranean. For £5.7million and more than £2million-a-year in wages, fans will want a player who can cope with the conditions and settle as soon as possible.

And would Appiah be the 'wow' signing that is expected to arrive at Parkhead? It's hard to tell, but until a club makes a move for Gravesen, and Gravesen decides to move, it's questionable whether the club would risk having two £40,000-a-week earners on the books.

How reliable is this source but? I think Appiah would be great but in the past speculation about wow signings have often faded into lies and false hope.

dnt see it happening but get tommy packing :)
SeanBhoy1888
More than one person has suggested that it's now just personal terms and the clubs have agreed, and one of those has been right in the past.
Jamie1967
Go onto the Beattie article. Somebody is claiming that Pistol Pete has closed the door on Appiah? Either way i have not been impressed at all with GS in the transfer market. Time is running out, hes *****ed about enough now, hes had 2 easy years now its time to get down to business!
rk1888
ur not be impressed unless we sign kaka or sumthin ridiculous like tht bawbag!
SeanBhoy1888
There's more to the Appiah saga than meets the eye, and Appiah hasn't exactly covered himself in glory during the negotiations!. However, he has an offer from Celtic on the table. His likes Italy and his family live there. Juve have had an 'on-off' interest in him(which was down to the recent managerial upheavals), the downside for Appiah about moving to Juve is that he'd miss-out on CL(and indeed any Euro footy next season). Anyway, Pistol Pete left him with a take-it or leave-it offer....the rest is up to Stevie boy, who could still be Stevie Bhoy..

SB your a gimp ;) Your an amateur fan (if even a fan at all) You have complete lack of care for the club as show by your stupid and ridiculous posts. Hold on sure, how about we go down and fish out some players from the 3rd division of the English tier. GS might find some quality down there, he might keeps the wages down and the finances in shape! Show some ******** insight! I pay good money to watch my team, I'm a season ticket holder, so I'm entitled to an opinion much more than you are, you go ahead and sit in your arm chair the next time Celtic are playing, btw the next game will be 5th July against Basel in case you didn't know which you probs didn't. And ill be there watching my team, not like you, ******** *****! Your one of those stupid ****s who will be content to sign anybody because you know ***** all about football and you know ***** all about Celtic.I bet you were one of those *****s who jumped for joy when Strachan went out and singed Virgo. I want the best for Celtic, i expect good signings, you do not, hence your inferior views and opinions. Back to Ibrox SB!
rk1888
I took a peak on your page because we and sp*rs were reported to have been watching edu as well, and while looking around I came across at one of the most retarded posts ever made by a fan to a fellow fan. Congratulations rk, it is all you. 'I am a season ticket holder therefore I am more intelligent' said the idiot and somehow survived. Hope other Celtic fans know better. Cheers.

lol even the yids see how much of a gimp u r m8 !!!!1

No you really have limited knowledge of Celtic so i seriously doubt that your intelligence in regards to football would be superior to mines. Yet against you illustrate my points for me. If the window has been open so early then Strachan should be doing all his work now. The whole point is to act early so that he can snap players up before players attain more interest! Another DOH moment for you. Don't even start on Strachan, you are even more deluded than i thought you were. Hes won us 2 leagues, oh that's great! Marvellous! Yes because there was only one team in the League for the past 2 years, Celtic. In case you didn't know, its considerably easy to win a league when you are the only team in it. Ever work that one out? No didn't think so? Last 16? What a joke that is. We were lucky to get there, MON scored 9 points and was just unlucky not to get there. These days the last 16 is not an achievement, Rangers did it with Eck and that pish team they had so your argument dosent hold too much gravity on that front either! A team for the future? Yes because once Walter Smith gets the better of him, yet again in the old firm encounters we will see him walk out of the job and then where will the team of the future be?
rk1888
SB I am a gooner.
G4L
just sounds to me u dnt like strachen and thts about it sorry G4L should have realised tht
SeanBhoy1888
So Appiah could still become a Bhoy, that's good to hear.
Skoosh
Where are you people sourcing this Appiah information. The ET have reported that the deal is dead, while Lawell has said it doesn't look likely, as the guy wants to return to Italy where his family is. I hope it's not true, but it doesn't seem likely.
irishbhoy
Yes i was asking the same question IB, i was a bit pesemistic about that info. I dont think Appiah will not be joining us, it seems lik its up to the player, if thats the case than there is nothing GS can do.
