Good move for Celtic, or Shittu?

Celtic are preparing a £2million bid for Watford centre-back Danny Shittu, according to reports in this morning's newspapers.

The 26-year-old, who was unable to prevent Watford being relegated from the English Premiership, has spent just a year at Vicarage Road after moving from Queens Park Rangers. Following a large number of links with players based on the continent, it seems the rumour mill has come full circle.

The Mirror have suggested the £2million price-tag, which seems to be about the going rate for such a player from England's second-tier these days, but another interesting rumour doing the rounds involves Celtic striker Kenny Miller.

There are claims that the misfiring Scotland international may be offered to Watford in exchange for Shittu, though how much truth there is in that remains to be seen. After returning to Scotland from Wolves just last year, it seems unlikely that he will return down south so soon.

But as for Shittu, is he worth £2million and is he really a player Celtic should be targeting? Well, English players are going for silly money all the time now, and although some would argue Celtic shouldn't be going for Shittu, there are worse players currently on the books at Parkhead.

Hopefully, it will come to nothing as there are better players on the continent, available for a better price, but this does seem like a Gordon Strachan-style signing...

dnt see us signing this big lump off wood, hopefully we sing rod fanni if we sign a centre back he has some talent

But we're still looking week at the back no matter what. Could be good just to provide cover, or for some physical presence. I can see this happening far more than Fanni, to be honest. Both have great names, though...!

Doesn't make sense. Why try to get rid of balde then spend £2mill on *Shittu. I know his wages would be cheaper but still have to pay stupid money.

No way! I hope this is a sick joke!
rk1888
I hope it's a joke. But there is something about it that has a terrible feel to it. And I know it's no real argument, but we did a lot better with Lee Naylor than practically any of us thought...no, still doesn't make this look any better...
Jamie1967
Out of good move for Celtic and the other option, I'm going for the latter!
ForeverHoop
Lee Naylor may have worked. But you don't get that "lucky" that often. And not with a player like him. And are we just being linked with these players because of the names?
LarryTL
LARSSON*7*CFC - spot on. Get rid of Balde, who hoofs the ball and has no pace, to bring in another player who, from what I've seen, hoofs the ball and has no pace. Sideways move, all it will save is some wages, but what's the point!?!
CowesBhoy
I agree may aswell keep hold of balde rather than buy a younger version!
CRAZIBHOY
Balde and *Shittu should stay well away from our club.
