'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Celtic eye Liverpool striker

Liverpool striker Anthony Le Tallec could make a summer move to Celtic, according to reports on the continent.

The 22-year-old has been with Liverpool since 2001 but has made just 17 appearances. However, Le Tallec has been playing regular football as he has spent time on loan at Le Harve, Saint-Etienne, Sunderland and Sochaux.

Le Tallec helped Sochaux win the 2007 French Cup after netting a late equaliser. Fellow reported Celtic target Guirane N'Daw also played in the match, which was eventually decided on penalties.

While Tallec has potential, there have to be questions asked over whether he has not managed to break through. When he made 27 appearances on-loan at Sunderland, he scored just three goals - though, to be fair - he does often play as more of an attacking midfielder than a striker.

Liverpool would probably be happy to sell for anything approaching a sensible offer, but surely there are more proven goal-scorers out there, and that is what Celtic and Gordon Strachan need. With the new midfield taking shape, the club desperately need a proven striker to complement Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.

And that striker is surely not Le Tallec...

Another interesting link...like *Shittu, Rigters, N'Daw and Drenthe he is young, athletic, versatile and affordable. I agree that some of these guys still have something to prove but Strachan seems to have a belief that getting a raw young talent and moulding them into stars is the way to go and I won't disagree, if we find the next Larsson that way it would save us many millions and eventually should make us millions. Remeber he found Boateng, Sno and Huckerbery in the past so a few calculated risks wouldn't be unwarranted. I like his method of pursuing targets early and can't wait to see the squad come mid July!

this is alot of bull...we r signing rigters deals nearly done!

Nothing wrong with signing both of them, especially with some, or all, of Beattie, Miller, Magic, Jiri, etc, etc, all leaving. Still think le Tallec is not going to "make it," though.

Tallec is not Celtic quailty. Get the boy dutch player in!
rk1888
He'd be a good bench warmer, wouldn't he?!?

Tallec??? no feckin way!
Tim on the bog
No way we should sign him, 3goals in 27 appearances thats poor. Magic had a poor season but at least he was in double figures.

Good point. If a player can't compete with Magic's dire season, then we shouldn't even go any further!
