Naismith - Celtic the other club?

Could Celtic be the unnamed club about to make an offer for Kilmarnock striker Steven Naismith following a string of 'final offers' from Rangers?

The saga surrounding the future of the 20-year-old striker has gone on for far too long, but it now seems the story could take yet another twist. Rangers recently withdrew their "final" offer of £1.5million but now boss Jim Jefferies has said a bid from another club could be imminent.

While all the talk has been about Naismith moving to Ibrox (given the loyalties of the Scottish media, that shouldn't be too surprising), Celtic have often been mentioned as a footnote, with boss Gordon Strachan apparently "monitoring" or "tracking" the situation.

Jefferies is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "There is a club who have not made an offer yet, but made another enquiry. Rangers haven't offered enough, it's as simple as that and all their offers have been final offers!"

Summer is a time for rumours and a number surrounding a Naismith move to Parkhead have been suggested. One is that the Scotland international will join Celtic and then be loaned back to Killie for a season while he continues his development, while another suggests Strachan will make a move if he can offload Miller.

However, if Kilmarnock really have rejected an offer of £1.5million already (although that may have involved instalments and add-ons, to be fair) then the price could rocket. Celtic currently have a number of strikers to choose from, with Scott McDonald and Chris Killen joining in the summer and it's highly debatable whether Naismith could provide any new options.

If this had been Celtic who had made all these derisory offers, the press would never have been off our backs!. instead of congratulating Killie for holding out against the skinto huns, they've been trying to get him to the huns for as cheap as possible by every unscrupulous means possible...bawbags and cowards. What about M.A.D.????????, why no mention of that from the loyal press???????
Skoosh
Heres hoping, tho I think we should loan him straight back to Kilmarnock or to Hibs and the lad might not want that, but I would like to stop him joining Rangers (just for the crack really!). I have another opinion on who we should sign and Steven Fletcher looks like the kind of player who given another year will be ready for big things maybe get him now while he's a bit cheaper and loan him out to Hibs again.
brian_bhoy
Of course, he could fly south and take the money on offer down there.
Jamie1967
His agent was the one who 'advised' him to refuse a move down south, as he has always wanted him to go to his club - the huns!(under orders from his employer of course..super-sally)
TicV"Establishment"
Have to chuckle at Jim Jefferies, though, with his line about final offers...!
Jamie1967
Naisy's big problem is he is a hun. But then again, so were Kenny Dalglish, Alfie Conn, Steven Pressley, Mark Brown, Craig Beattie and Kenny Miller. John Hartson was a medical away too! Regardless of the guys out there who dislike all ex-huns, in the past we haven't done too badly with them have we?
weetim67
I hated Beattie lol i thought he was utter *****e. The Killie chairman said last night that Rangers had infact not made that offer and that the biggest offer came from another SPL team, but the old firm had not met the requirements. He is looking for something in the region of 2million. To be honest i dont think Naisy is worth that amount of money and Strachan should look to spend whatever he has left on a decent striker. We've spent 7million on the midfield. Now its time to add to the front line.
rk1888
Well said rk1888 and maybe a decent centre half as well. Pressley and Caldwell aren't the best defenders in there household never mind for celtic.
Timtalk
We need a Leftback, a centrehalf, and a top striker, and guess what? we've needed them since last season! Get your finger oot strachan! No more under performing players in a Celtic jersey. Naichance? nothing would surprise me anymore.
Tim on the bog
Tim on the bog, how can you say we need a left back when the one we have is without question in the top three in the UK and certainly the best in Scotland?? The only two he is not better than in my opinion, is Ashley Cole and Gab Heinze. Defenders I certainly agree with though. We do need more solid cover back there and we do need a goal poacher of the Hartson or McBride level. The problem is where do you get these? If they were readily available we'd all have one!
weetim67
I meant right back!, right back!, naylor is excellent!
Tim on the bog
I managed to get it 'right' in the forum, but fecked it up here!, don't blame me, strachans doin my nut in!
Tim on the bog
You had me worried there Tim, easy mistake to make mate.
Skoosh
Apart from your wee mistake Tim :D, I agree with everything you said!
Celts4me
weetim, the fact that you think ashley 'freekick' cole is one of top 3 LBs in world doesn't add to your arguement. Maybe if you had said that once we see a settled back 4 (in other words no pressley or caldwell) then we would see the best of wilson. However, there is still no cover for that position and so a LB is a must !
LARSSON*7*CFC
There you go, you made me make same mistake :) Meant RB.
LARSSON*7*CFC
Team as things stand should be ; boruc, wilson, mcmanus, o'dea(kennedy if fit), naylor, nakamura, donati, brown, sno, mcdonald, jvh. This would be played with sno in lennon's pos of protecting back four and three in middle. 4,1,3,2. A quality left mid would allow a 4-4-2 but mcgeady is too inconsistenet and is always pish in european games.
LARSSON*7*CFC
lol you had us worried there Tim, i know what your saying m8, Strachan has us all over the place with his summer signings. We defintley do need a good CB and a good RB AND a good striker. I dont know if we will be able to get all of those with our limited money. If i were to pick one i think i would go for a Striker. I also agree that McGeady is a bit pish on europe.
rk1888
is dion dublin still available? they could wheel him out of the nursing home and put him back on the pitch. i expect at least one bone-headed signing before the season begins. maybe we'll get linked with horse again.
amerihoop
Still think we'd be scared if we ever found out just how close we were to signing the Horse. Bad times, but at least he would have been a player and players are something we're not hearing much speculation about at the moment.
Jamie1967
A top quality striker now please strachan!
Celts4me
we all know the problems we have, surely the men in charge can see it 2. i can imagine all the issues with finance, but in my humble opinion we should b showing more ambition and without sounding a bit pessimistic, giving ourselves a punching chance in the c.l.
4leafclover
and naismith is not that puncher!! is saviola still un-settled? we could do alot worse. just a thought.
