Larissa net Celtic's former Magic

Celtic striker Maciej Zurawski has joined Greek side Larissa FC and has been given the standard "thanks and good luck" message on the club's official site.

The 31-year-old, who had been linked with a move to the MLS during the transfer window, had previously confessed he was considering a move away from Parkhead in order to find regular football ahead of Poland's Euro 2008 campaign in the summer.

Zurawski appears to have taken his national coach Leo Beenhakker's advice to heart and decided it would be better to play for a team languishing 10th in the Greek league than continue to warm Scottish benches.

Zurawski, who lived up to his "Magic" nickname for his first season at Celtic after joining from WisÅ‚a Krakï¿½w in June 2005, failed to recapture his initial form after picking-up an injury during the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Celtic have not disclosed the fee they received from Larissa although, with Zurawski's contract set to expire in the summer, it would only have been a modest amount.

In with the new and out with the old - and, in this case at least, the deal appears to be in the best interest of all parties. Thanks for the good season, Maciej, and good luck for Euro 2008.

Yeah, but given the time on his contract, it's not bad. It works out better than the £1million we got for Maloney with six months left, and we invested a lot more in him during our time here, arguably.
