Celtic 6 - Dundee United 2

Celtic Park

Sat 16th Feb 3pm

Attendance:

Joy of six for Celtic

Celtic recovered spectacularly from their midweek disappointment to easily romp past the challenge of Dundee United 6-2 at Parkhead.

Kris Commons and Anthony Stokes both scored twice while Efe Ambrose and skipper Joe Ledley were also on target - after the visitors had taken an early lead following Gary Mackay-Steven robbing Charlie Mulgrew and allowing Stuart Armstrong to slot under Fraser Forster.

But moments later Commons delivered a corner and Ambrose headed an equaliser before celebrating with a succession of acrobatic somersaults. And within eleven minutes Commons had smashed in a second off the crossbar from a cross by Emilio Izaguirre.

The visitors could have immediately levelled when Adam Matthews was penalised for a challenge on Mackay-Steven but Forster blocked Jon Daly's penalty.

And the hosts made them pay for that miss when Ledley struck a deflected third following neat work inside the area from Victor Wanyama and Stokes.

Leading scorer Gary Hooper dragged a shot wide early in the second-half, until Commons added his second of the afternoon from the penalty spot after Stokes was fouled by Barry Douglas.

The Hoops duly made if five with twenty minutes remaining with this time Stokes producing a great 20-yard finish from Wanyama's pass. And the returning Irishman soon brought up the half-dozen after James Forrest had already been denied by goalkeeper Radoslaw Cierzniak.

Tangerines striker Johnny Russell did manage a consolation in the final minute but his side were already well and truly out-for-the-count by then.
