Celtic: Jock Stein statue to be unveiled tomorrow

Celtic: Jock Stein statue to be unveiled tomorrow
Tomorrow will see a new figure join those of Brother Walfrid and Jimmy Johnstone outside the main entrance to Paradise with a statue of the immortal Jock Stein due to be unveiled.

The unveiling ceremony will take place at 12.45pm prior to tomorrows game against Hamilton Accies. I hope as many Celtic fans as possible can make it along to honour the man who single-handly both revolutionised and reinvented the modern Celtic Football Club.

To think that some, of a Neanderthal persuasion, still besmirch the great mans name says everything you need to know about the followers of that insidious club. However, just as Jock did in life, his statue will cast a giant shadow which will warm the heart of every Celt - and make cold the already withered hearts of the Neanderthals.

'John, you're immortal now' ~ Bill Shankly

'There is not a prouder man on God's Earth than me at this moment. Winning was important, aye, but it was the way that we have won that has filled me with satisfaction. We did it by playing football. Pure, beautiful, inventive football. There was not a negative thought in our heads. Inter played right into our hands; it's so sad to see such gifted players shackled by a system that restricts their freedom to think and to act. Our fans would never accept that sort of sterile approach. Our objective is always to try to win with style.' ~ Jock Stein, shortly after winning the European Cup. 1967.

Manager Brendan Rodgers has called for his Celtic players to keep making history.

Hibernian 2 Celtic 4

Holders Celtic avoided a second-half comeback from Hibernian to move into another Scottish League Cup final with a 4-2 victory at Hampden Park.

Defender Mikael Lustig scored twice before the break but former striker Anthony Stokes reduced the deficit from a penalty around the hour-mark.

However, substitute Moussa Dembele then made it 3-1 - and went on to add a late second after Hibs' Oliver Shaw had already replied.
